Toe in the Water- Supporting Our Injured Heroes
Sailing Clothing Store are proud to be sponsoring Toe in the Water, a charity that gives servicemen and women who have sustained serious injuries including loss of limbs the opportunity to aid rehabilitation through taking part in sailing events. The program encourages members to conquer the high seas and their injuries through hard work and camaraderie with other injured servicemen and women and able bodied sailors. This style of rehabilitation has proved to be a success because the recovery involves both recovering from the physical injuries and the mental trauma caused by the injury being sustained.
Body and Mind
The competitive edge to the recovery encourages the service men and women to get back a lust for life and enjoy being a part of something. They compete against able bodied athletes in their races so they have to be physically and mentally prepared for the challenge of the race, competing against the able bodied athletes strengthens their belief in their own abilities.
After sustaining a traumatic injury recovering can be a very difficult process, it is both physically and mentally demanding. This is where charities like Toe in the Water really make a difference they encourage servicemen and women to rediscover their passion for life. The course is not intended to turn the ex servicemen and women into sailors it is hoped that they will rediscover a passion for life and feel encouraged along their road to recovery.
After they have learnt the ropes they will compete in sailing competitions with able bodied sailors in some of the most gruelling and challenging regattas and races, this is no second rate option for injured service men and women it requires mental and physical strength to compete. This is the kind of challenge that these incredibly driven and focused individuals thrive on.
Proud Sponsors
Toe in the Water have a number of high profile sponsors including G.H. MuMM
In the last few years servicemen and women who have been at the frontline fighting for their country are getting the recognition and support they deserve. This is something that has been seen in both the local communities and countrywide with many people opening their eyes and seeing the situation.
It is believed that the road to recovery after a serious injury is both physical and mental. As much as the body has to recover its strength so the mind has to find its purpose again. Many of the injured suffer from depression and have a very difficult time when they try to rehabilitate into their previous life because of the change in their situation.
You can now see why we are so enthusiastic to be sponsoring such a brilliant charity that encourages people to rediscover their love for life through our great love sailing!
