Base Layers

Base layers, or thermals, are considered the most important layer for staying in peak condition whilst out on the water. The primary purpose for a base layer is to move moisture away from the skin, keeping you dry and warm after bursts of activity.

Base Layer Safety

You should never compromise and use substitute clothing as your base layer. For example, a base layer such as a cotton t-shirt will absorb and hold moisture that significantly reduces mid and outer-layer performance. The retained dampness will chill your skin, as well as weighing you down.

Best-Fit Base Layer

Your base layer needs to be snug with the most amount of skin in contact with the fabric as possible to allow the moisture to be removed quickly and keep the warmth trapped inside.

Value Base Layer Fabric

High quality base layers are made from fast-dry or polyester fabrics, often holding a UV protection rating and can be used as casual garments away from the deck. We provide various styles such as polo, T-shirt, long or short sleeve and half-zip. Our extensive range of base layers from all of the top sailing brands varies widely to suit your individual requirements. Brands such as Gill offer summer (i2 lite) and winter (i2 tec) designs for all year round performance and style.
