Yachting & Marine Coastal
Coastal sailing clothing provides a high level of performance and durability, constructed from breathable and waterproof fabrics, such as Musto BR1 and BR2
, Gill OS2 Coastal Clothing
, and Henri Lloyd TP1 Cruiser
. This clothing is ideally suited to sailors that require solid day performance and to be protected whilst on a weekend trips, short deliveries and channel hopping with bad weather forecasts.
A number of materials are used to make coastal sailing gear, including the three layer Gore-tex construction as favoured in the Musto range. However, most items feature a two layer construction, which comprises an inner lining and an outer shell, both of which have a hydrophilic coating applied. Coastal sailing gear is probably the most popular choice as it suits a wide range of sailors and marine activity. This type of nautical apparel is ideal for novice yachters who enjoy day sailing, and is even tough enough for the odd trip across the Channel to France. Coastal marine clothing breathes by absorbing moisture from the warm high humidity zone around your body and chemically pushing it through your clothing. The outer layer also offers extremely durable protection against abrasion, yet it is light enough to allow for sustained activity.
This variety of sea going apparel features taped seams, thus making the mid layer 100% waterproof. The Henri Lloyd TP1 Coastal and Gill Keywest ranges are good examples. We also stock coastal and coastal racer smocks which provide maximum protection from the waves and splash when on deck.
Coastal yachting gear is noticeably lighter than offshore and ocean clothing. The jackets have a much lower fleece lined collar and are generally shorter, however they still benefit from features such as a high visibility hood, hand warmer pockets and reflective patches. The trousers are also lighter, but still comprise reinforced panels on the seat and knee areas.
