Gloves & Mitts
Gloves & Mitts
Gloves and mitts are worn for two main purposes; warmth and protection. Pulling on ropes is extremely hard on the hands so adequate protection is essential. Sailing gloves are often reinforced on the palms with leather or another hard wearing material, such as Amara. This is a man made replacement to leather that doesn’t change shape or shrink when wet.
Insulation & Reinforced Patches
Winter sailing mitts are manufactured using neoprene for increased warmth, whereas Summer gloves are often a fingerless design, allowing for easier manipulation of ropes etc. Protective boating gloves feature hard wearing reinforced patches which help to provide protection and extra grip. Offshore Gloves have a 100% waterproof design and thermal lining to cope with the harsh conditions which can be encountered when out on the open sea.
