The ever classic deck shoe has long been the marine footwear solution to many sailors over the years. The sole design has not changed for 75 years, when Paul Sperry was inspired by his dog’s ability to maintain grip on deck. After studying the razor cut patterns on his dog’s feet, he used a pen knife to cut into the outsole of his shoes, hence forming the first boat shoe.
